Myth: Male impotence causes infertility

In the world that we live in today, where knowledge is at everyone’s finger tips and each one has a view and opinion about everything, it is not a surprise that so many myths have been created and people follow them blindly or they are absolutely not aware about the ground reality. One such myth is that impotence causes infertility in man. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) or male impotence, takes away the ability for a man to perform in bed, i.e. his ability to achieve an erection is lost while infertility a person has lost his ability to reproduce. Two disorders belong to a completely different spectrum and have no connection what so ever.

ED doesn’t affect your sperm count as new sperms are formed every three days. These newly formed sperms are active and have full potential of becoming fertile. It is when the sperm count slashes down alarmingly, that one has to worry about becoming in fertile and impotence doesn’t reduce the sperm count at all in any given condition. If one is faced with male impotence and infertility, it is sure to have been aroused from different causes and one needs to check with his family physician, who is aware about the patient’s medical history.

However, one must consider factors like smoking, erratic sleeping hours, irregular eating habits, consumption of alcohol and junk food, stressful, weight gain and so on, which are some of the common causes for both ED and sperm count. Nevertheless, there is absolutely not proof scientifically that ED is responsible for lower sperm count.

When a male is faced with ED it means that blood flow to his penile region is reduced leading to his inability to achieve an erection. On the other hand, low sperm count is caused because not every sperm that is penetrated in a woman meets the egg and fertilizes. Both the syndromes do a great damage to one’s relationship and self esteem. Hence, it is important to be sure about what has caused you which syndrome instead of blaming taking unnecessary stress.
So if you are faced with ED at an young age do not worry that you cannot father a child, just get medical help instantly.
